The PLAY - CREATIVE GAMING FESTIVAL invited gaming enthusiasts from 4 - 8 November 2020 to celebrate the culture of digital games online. In workshops, exhibitions, shows, discussions and talks, the focus was on participation, trying things out, discussing, programming, discovering and of course playing. The attendees had the choice: stream, virtual festival location or digital game worlds – all roads led to PLAY20.

Under the motto EXPLORING BORDERS, we set out to discover, measure and cross the boundaries of digital games. Where does a game end, where does the real world begin? Which boundaries are unavoidable for digital games, which should finally be abolished? That’s what we wanted to find out together at PLAY20.

PLAY20 took place online on various channels: From "curated zapping" through the entire festival program on Channel 1: PLAY Studio to talk and show formats on Channel 2: PLAY on Stage to digital workshops on Channel 3: Laboratory and the Machinima Cinema on Channel 4.

Our virtual festival was located in the A MAZE./ SPACE. There, visitors were able to experience the online exhibition and the entire program together with other guests.

On the PLAY20 Discord-Server, participants also had the opportunity to get into a conversation with each other, ask questions and get to know the team and artists.

PLAY is the first an only festival worldwide to unite media art, discourse and education with the culture of digital games. It focuses on the creative utilization of digital games: invent, build, tinker, modify, program, dance, discuss - anything goes!

PLAY is the festival for game enthusiasts and gamers, indie game developers and media artists, pupils and students, teachers and educators, scientists, people involved in the games industry and everyone, who wishes to play and learn with digital games.
